So...if we build it, will they come? Several major RV manufacturers have closed, not just in Elkhart. This has affected not just the factories, their workers and their towns, but the whole industry. I am a licensed salesperson in CA, and even though our dealership is small, we have felt the pinch all the way down to parts suppliers. Even if we were to get Elkhart back on track, as well as Springfield, OR or any of the other major RV producing cities, are the banks going to start lending again? Are consumers going to be able to take some money out of the bank and feel good about it? What about the trade value for a unit whos manufacturer has shut down? I am working 40 hours a week, and on salary for 24 of those 40. We actually made three sales in July, with 99% of the profit going back into the business to try and keep our doors open (part of our logo is Since 1988!). With no commisssion, I am bringing home barely enough to keep the electricity on, and am very frustrated with our Social Services Dept and Unemployment Dept-both of which say I don't qualify! Unemployment actually told me I need to be available for full-time work (where do I find that when the unemployment rate is at what, 17%?). Social Services says I make too much money. While the cash for clunkers is a great incentive for car dealers, how do we do that for the RV dealers? Not tomention the fact that some of the flooring companies are no longer in business. When i saw President Obama speech on the Rv factory I ask myself where's is Sarah Palin and Jonh Mckain? where? they FORGOT! the people from Indiana. Now the man you vote Against and his last name is Obama. is coming back to continue his promise of bring jobs to your town.
